Zechariah, with its opulent and sometimes terrifying imagery of the coming ‘day of the Lord’, is a hard and challenging prophecy to read. Yet it will repay study richly, when seen in its context not only in the Old Testament, but as a promise of the Lord Jesus. Jesus quotes Zechariah as he approaches his own crucifixion in Jerusalem: so to understand Zechariah is to understand the mission of the Lord Jesus in all its glory.
