Recorded live on Palm Sunday 2004, Purple features Simon Johnson improvising a ‘St Luke Passion’ on the world-renowned St Albans Cathedral organ.
Following readings by Reverend Barnaby Huish, Johnson uses iconic hymn tunes and plainsong to reflect on Christ’s final days. The programme is completed by Dupré’s Crucifixion and Tournemire’s Victimae Paschali.
St Albans organ: William Hill 1861, remodelled by Henry Willis & Son 1929 and rebuilt by Harrison & Harrison 1962), famous throughout the world due to the St Albans annual International Organ Festival.
