David Bednall performs French organ masterpieces at Blackburn Cathedral; (organ by Gray (1826/31) & Cavaillé-Coll (1875), rebuilt by Walker (1969) restored David Wood 2002).
Featuring Naji Hakim’s Le Tombeau d’Olivier Messiaen and works by Messiaen and Vierne, this ‘Parisian’ programme highlights the organ's suitability for the dramatic dynamic contrasts of the French school. Each of these composers had been organist titulaire of major Parisian Churches.
